A man was threatened with a machete during a shop raid in Penwortham, say police.

Police were called after three men were reported to have entered the Thorougoods convenience store on Leyland Road on Sunday at around 10pm.

One of the men jumped over the counter and held a machete to the neck of a male shop assistant while a second was locked in a toilet and had her mobile phone and wallet stolen.

The men made off with a quantity of cash and cigarettes.

Police are now appealing for information from anyone who can help with their investigation.

Det Con Stuart Lunt, of Chorley CID, said: “This was a nasty robbery which left two members of staff very shaken by their ordeal.

“If you were in the area at that time and saw anything suspicious, please get in touch.”
