The firm at the centre of an explosion which killed a dad-of-one as he worked alone in a tyre factory is to appear in court.

Dad-of-one Gary Jackson, 46, from Preston, was working alone at Red Scar Tyres, on the Red Scar Industrial Estate, Longridge Road, Ribbleton, when the incident happened in February 2012.

The firm faces two charges - failing to protect an employee and failing to protect non employees on the date in question.

The Health and Safety Executive has brought the prosecution.

It is understood the victim was injured when a wagon tyre exploded as he changed it.

The wagon driver, who was stood nearby, tried to help him and paramedics were called.

But despite attempts to resuscitate him, Mr Jackson was pronounced dead at the Royal Preston Hospital a short time later.

A short hearing took place at Preston Magistrates Court on Wednesday but the proceedings have now been adjourned until October 15.
