Two caravans destroyed in 'suspicious' fire in Garstang

Emergency services rushed to extinguish a 'suspicious' fire which destroyed two caravans in Garstang.

Fire crews were called to reports two caravans were engulfed in flames at the Burlingham Caravans site in Garstang this morning (July 26).

Pictures from the scene show a number of police vehicles and fire engines outside the caravan dealership.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, but police believe the fire was started between 3am - 3.30am.

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and police are urging anybody with information to come forward.

A spokesperson for Garstang and Over Wyre Police said: "We are currently at the scene of a fire where two caravans have been destroyed.

"At this time the A6 at the junction of Croston Road crossroads is passable however access onto Cockerham Road is not.

"Have you seen anything suspicious or do you know anything about it? If so, please report via 101."

Four fire engines from Garstang, Lancaster, Fulwood and Preston were called to battle the blaze, with Garstang Bypass Road closed to allow crews to safely extinguish the flames.

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews used four breathing apparatus, one hose reel, one jet and a ground monitor to tackle the fire.

"The police were called due to the fire being of suspicious origin."
