A man who assaulted a woman in the street has been jailed for four weeks.

Jordan Bamber, 20, denied being responsible for attacking the woman close to his home in De Lacy Street, Ashton, Preston.

However, magistrates found him guilty of the attack following a trial.

The court heard Bamber and the woman had known each other for around six weeks before the attack.

On the night of the incident, both had been drinking at Bamber’s house but had fallen out as the woman wanted a relationshiop and Bamber did not.

Bamber admitted throwing the woman out of his home but claimed he last saw her two hours before she was set upon.

Witnesses called police and described a woman being punched to the ground and kicked by a man in a grey jacket.

When officers arrived, the woman named Bamber as her attacker.

The court heard the woman was taken to the police station, where Baber repeatedly tried to contact her on her mobile phone.

Bamber claimed: “I was calling to see if she was alright. My friend told me she had been arrested and she was in the police station. She had been assaulted earlier on that night.”

Bamber also claimed the woman had been fighting with other girls earlier that evening and was “extremely drunk.”

However, after hearing the evidence against him, magistrates found him guilty of common assault and jailed him for four weeks.
