A thief who struck at a convenience store for a second time, targeting the same victim, has been given a suspended jail term.

Robert Towers, 32, of Tulketh Road, Ashton-on-Ribble, Preston, admitted stealing a HRT Scanner worth £700 from the Costucutter store at Murco Service Station, Victoria Road, Walton-le-Dale, near Preston, on October 18 last year.

The bench at Preston Magistrates’ Court imposed a 12-week sentence suspended for 12 months, telling him he had an “appalling record” and pointing out he had previously targeted the same victim.

He was given a curfew and ordered to pay £500 compensation, an £80 surcharge and £85 costs. He also admitted failing to surrender to custody and must pay a £150 criminal courts charge.
