Thick as thieves: Dozy criminals caught when getaway car ran out of petrol in Lancashire

Police arrested two dozy thieves earlier this after they tried to escape on foot after their getaway car ran out of petrol.

The men, from Yorskhire, had been making their escape after snatching a large quantity of meat from a Tesco store in Colne, east Lancashire, when they ran out of fuel heading back to cross the county border near Laneshaw Bridge.

The pair tried to escape on foot but were tracked down by officers after an extensive search using the force’s helicopter and a search dog.

Police said the men had attempted to run over a staff member at the store when he challenged them and the vehicle was not taxed or insured.
