'Shotgun attack' results in man being rushed to hospital in West Lancashire

A man was rushed to hospital after being injured in a shooting in Skelmersdale.

Police were called to reports a man had been shot in Carfield at around 12.36am today (July 23).

A 30-year-old man was found suffering with a gunshot wound to his leg - which officers believe may have been caused by a shotgun - when emergency services arrived at scene.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment, but police say his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Police have now launched an investigation into the incident and are appealing to the public for information.

Det Insp Jason Richardson, from Skelmersdale CID, said: "We understand that incidents like this are concerning for the community and so I would like to reassure people that we have a team of officers working on finding who was responsible.

"We will remain in the area speaking to people as part of our investigation and to reassure the community."
