Sexual assault on 13-year-old girl in park investigated

A sexual assault on a 13-year-old girl was today being investigated by Lancashire detectives.

Police were alerted on Friday after a report that a teenage girl had been sexually assaulted in Withy Grove Park, Bamber Bridge.

The attack is believed to have happened on Thursday.

A police spokesman said: “It’s the early stages of the investigation and our enquiries are ongoing.”

No arrests have been made at this stage and the girl is being supported by specially-trained officers.

Neighbours reported scenes of crime officers in the park and an area near a tree cordoned off.

One resident said there had been a police presence at the scene all night.
