Sex offender jailed for failure to notify police

A REGISTERED sex offender was sent to prison for 12 weeks after admitting failing to update police with details of his address.

Magistrates heard Ashley Louis Barratt, 27, of Lancaster had deliberately tried to avoid detection by not informing police within the required three days. He had previous convictions for failing to keep police informed.

Barratt also admitted breaching a conditional discharge by committing a further offence and also failing to surrender to bail.

In addition he was ordered to pay a criminal courts charge of £180 and a victim surcharge of £80.
