A teenager, who went missing from Preston, has been found.

Melissa Hughes, 16, went missing for the missing for the second time in three weeks, walking out of her home in Gamull Lane, Ribbleton, on October 29,

The countywide police appeal came to an end on Thursday when Melissa and her 19-year-old boyfriend, Kieran Jolly, who went missing from Royal Blackburn Hospital on November 8, were found in Preston.

Melissa’s parents, John and Carol, were growing increasingly worried for her welfare.

During the time she was missing, the couple raised questions over the response of authorities after the teen was picked up by police and returned to her family home, but walked out again an hour later.

The couple criticised Blackpool police for not referring Melissa to a specialist help unit and for pressurising them to take her home when they felt they couldn’t cope.

Carol said: “Thank you so much for everyone who has helped and kept their eyes open for her.

“We’re pleased that she’s been found.

“It’s a big relief for us all.”

The couple said that since the Evening Post ran the last article, authorities have been working closely with them.
