Search for 72-year-old man with dementia who disappeared on a Sunday walk

A search is underway for a missing pensioner with dementia who has disappeared on a routine Sunday walk.

John Thompson, 72, from Chester, was reported missing after failing to return from his regular Sunday walk around his home town yesterday (April 19).

Police said Mr Thompson, who has dementia, was last seen at around 2pm when he left his home to embark on his weekly walk.

He was last heard from at around 6pm when he spoke to his wife, telling her that he was lost in a field.

Despite repeated attempts to call him, Mr Thompson has not answered his phone and there has been no other contact since the alarming phone call.

Officers are growing increasingly concerned for his wellbeing and believe that he might still be in the Saughall area of Chester.

But they are also investigating whether he might have crossed the River Dee into North Wales.

Mr Thompson has been known to cross the river and walk along tracks to Wepre Park, a sprawling country park in Flintshire.

He is described as white, 5ft 6ins tall with very white hair.

He was wearing a navy-coloured, thin gym jacket, green trousers and walking boots.
