A SECURITY guard was attacked with a machete by four masked robbers as he loaded a cash machine.
The terrifying attack happened at the ATM outside McColls newsagents on Ribbleton Avenue, Preston, at around 7.15am Friday.
The victim, in his 30s, was working for Green Team Services Ltd, transporting cassettes of cash when the balaclava-clad gang, who were also armed with baseball bats, struck.
Horrified staff inside the store witnessed the whole incident, which lasted around two minutes.
Detectives believe the criminals used an Audi A3, stolen from Staffordshire, to make their initial getaway, but dumped it on nearby Moorside Avenue, where it is thought a second car was waiting.
They stole “tens of thousands of pounds”, police said.
Det Insp Keith Lee, of Preston Police, said: “ The guard suffered a cut to his hip but fortunately it did not require hospital treatment.
“It appears a lot of planning has gone into this robbery and it has very similar hallmarks to a cash in transit robbery 12 months ago on Langcliffe Road in Brookfield.
“The black Audi was seen parked up on the Ribble Lodge pub car park moments before the robbery but at that stage there were only two people on board.
“They escaped with four cassettes of cash.
