Mischief-makers in Chipping and Sabden will have their antisocial antics caught on the two new CCTV systems being brought to car parks in both villages.

It comes after a spate of anti-social behaviour and damage to vehicles in the villages’ car parks in Club Lane and Padiham Lane, respectively, leading to the council through its Ribble Valley Community Safety Partnership investing in the new systems worth almost £5,500.

Chipping Coun Simon Hore said: “The new CCTV system will significantly improve the chances of identifying the culprits and where appropriate bring a prosecution.

“This will restore confidence in villagers to use the car park, rather than leave vehicles on roads and side streets.”

The systems are set to be used to deter future criminal activity on the car parks and to also gather evidence of future crimes so that the culprits can be prosecuted for their actions in court.

The schemes received funding from the office of Clive Grunshaw, Lancashire‘s Police and Crime Commissioner.

Mr Grunshaw said: "Supporting the installation of these new cameras will enable the police to access high quality footage to support criminal investigations and prosecutions.

"This is exactly what Community Safety funding is all about and is why I work closely with partners across Lancashire. It allows local communities to identify issues which concern them and tackle these directly.

“I want the public to feel safe and secure in their communities. CCTV cameras and services can help provide that re-assurance, deterring criminal and anti-social behaviour.”

Sabden Coun Ricky Newmark added: “The majority of young people behave responsibly, but a minority are making a nuisance of themselves and in some cases vandalising vehicles.

“Not only do these incidents cause distress and inconvenience to vehicle owners, but they discourage villagers from using the car park, which creates congestion on clogged side streets.

“Thanks to these CCTV systems the police will be able to identify the culprits and take action.”
