A WOMAN who dishonestly failed to pay an £8.60 train fare has been ordered to pay a £220 fine by magistrates after being found guilty.

Helen Simmons, 30 of Chestnut Grove, Lancaster, failed to attend her trial at Preston Magistrates’ Court.

She was convicted in her absence.

The bench ruled she must also pay a victim surcharge of £22, £150 costs and a £150 court charge.
