Raiders get away with goods after early hours break-in at Tesco store in Leyland

Raiders struck at a Lancashire Tesco store in the early hours of today.

The burglary took place at the Tesco Express store, Canberra Road, Leyland.

It is understood the break-in happened at around 4.30am when the store was closed to the public.

There were no staff in the building at the time.

A Tesco spokesperson said the raiders damaged the front window of the store as they gained access to the building and that there was a "theft of goods".

However, the company could not say just what was taken, how much, or its value.

The spokesperson confirmed: "Due to a break-in at our Canberra Road Express, our store was temporarily closed this morning but it should now be open as usual.

!We are assisting the police with their enquiries."

People have been talking about the incident through social media.

On the Leyland Hub public Facebook group, Tom Downey commented: "Something happened at little tesco, crime scene van there. Not letting customers in. Hope the staff all ok."

Robert Stuchberry said: "I went passed at half 5 4 police vans."

Andrew Hall said: "Big hole in the window next to the counter, looks like someone been in in the night."
