Racist public order incident between two feuding women happened at Town Hall

Maria Stables, 23, of Lockhart Road, Preston, was subject to a restraining order at the time which had banned her from contacting Jasmine Sampson since August 2016.

But almost a year later, in July 2017, Stables was attending a housing appointment at the venue when she saw Miss Sampson, who was also attending an appointment.

Preston Magistrates' Court was told Stables shouted: 'Oh, it's f***ing you' before becoming irate, and used racist terms towards her.

Prosecuting, Peter Bardsley said: "Miss Sampson lifted her head up to see Miss Stables was in front of her.

"She walked off before coming back to her and calling her racist terms and told her to 'watch herself'.

"Miss Sampson told her partner when she got home and the police were contacted.

"She says the incident lasted for around 10 minutes. The incident has made her feel shocked and upset and has knocked her confidence.

"She suffers severe anxiety and it takes a lot of effort to go out."

Stables admitted breach of a restraining order and using racially aggravated abusive words or behaviour to cause alarm or distress.

Defending, John Didsbury said the offence was almost a year ago and nothing had happened since.

He said Miss Stables has mental health issues including borderline personality disorder and added: "It was a chance meeting."

The bench imposed an 11 week curfew, rehabilitation activity and ordered her to pay £100 compensation, an £85 surcharge and £200 costs.

She was given a further 12 month restraining order.
