Coun Robert Boswell, Cabinet member for environment and community safety, said: "It's very disappointing that there are unthinking and selfish people who view vandalism as acceptable.

"The sign was put up as a thank you to key workers for their efforts during the on-going pandemic.

"Our gardeners and parks teams work wonders all year round to keep our green spaces looking beautiful for everyone to enjoy - spaces that have been especially welcome this year. So I'm saddened by this news."

The incident has been reported to Lancashire Police."
