Preston road chase saw dangerous driver from Blackburn reach 100mph

A motorist who reached speeds of up to 100mph in a 40mph zone during a police chase in Preston has pleaded guilty to dangerous driving.

Shakir Bashir Patel, 27, of Charlotte Street, Blackburn, also admits having no licence or insurance.

Prosecuting Miss Akhtar said: "It was a prolonged pursuit, it involved the defendant driving on the wrong side of the road and in road works.

"He was lost during the pursuit and it was deemed a risk to continue."

The incident unfolded on Preston New Road, Preston on August 26 as Patel was behind the wheel of a Toyota Corolla.

Preston Magistrates' Court heard the matters were too serious to be selected at the lower court, which has limited powers.

The bench committed his sentencing to Preston Crown Court, where he is expected to appear on November 2, and a pre sentence report was ordered
