Preston man arrested on suspicion of rape

A 33-year-old Preston man has been arrested on suspicion of rape, seven months after a woman in her 20s reported being sexually assaulted at a home in the city.

The man, from Moor Nook, had been the subject of several police appeals since detectives began a rape investigation in July last year (2020).

Despite repeated appeals for him to come forward, efforts to locate the man were unsuccessful until he was located on Sunday (February 14).

He was arrested on suspicion of rape and taken into custody. He has since been bailed to March 6.

Following his arrest, Lancashire Police said: "This man has been wanted by police for some time in relation to an allegation of sexual assault but has failed to hand himself in.

"Officers are dedicated to locating and arresting those who are wanted and attempt to evade police."
