Preston boxer Scott Fitzgerald quizzed over alleged assault

Former Commonwealth Games champion Scott Fitzgerald has been arrested over an alleged assault in Preston.

Comments about the alleged incident, believed to be domestic in nature, have been circulating on social media.

The boxer, who became a dad in October, became a National ABA champion at the age of 21.

He went on to win Commonwealth Games gold, in Glasgow, in 2014 as an amateur.

After turning professional, he claimed the British super-welterweight title – defeating domestic rivals Anthony Fowler and Ted Cheeseman in two blockbuster showdowns last year.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: "A 28-year-old man from Preston has been arrested on suspicion of assault following an incident at an address on Ryelands Crescent in the city.

"Enquiries are ongoing."

it is understood he has been given police bail until May.
