Police raided the home in Watkin Lane - between Ward Street and Albrighton Road - yesterday (Tuesday, March 9), where a large cannabis grow was found on both floors of the terraced house.

A locksmith helped officers gain entry after the occupants - who are understood to be renting the home - failed to answer the door.

But no-one was found inside the home and no arrests have been made at this stage.

Neighbours watched as officers worked at the scene throughout the day, dismantling the equipment and bagging up the plants.

Officers could be seen bringing out large plastic bags filled with cannabis plants, as well as lamps, fans and heaters.

One neighbour said: "Suspected it for a while now. The windows were never open and nobody hardly ever went inside.

"They must have made a fortune over time as it has been like that since I moved here three years ago."

A police spokesman said: "We were called at around 6.30pm yesterday (March 9) to reports a cannabis grow had been discovered inside a property on Watkin Lane, Lostock Hall.

"The set-up has since been dismantled and plants seized.

"No arrests have been made as yet but enquiries are ongoing."

Anybody with information should call police on 101, quoting log 343 of March 9.
