Police investigate after car is found torched in Penwortham

An investigation is under way after a car was found torched in Penwortham overnight.

The vehicle was found engulfed in flames at the secluded end of Factory Lane, near the old tramway, at 1.30am this morning.

Fire crews from Bamber Bridge were called to the scene and a hose reel was used to put the fire out.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said the cause of the fire is suspicious and the incident has been reported to police.

Lancashire Police has confirmed that no arrests have been made at this stage, but an investigation is ongoing.

The burnt-out wreck remains at the scene this afternoon, where it awaits recovery from the local council.

A police spokesman said: "The fire service requested our attendance at a burnt-out vehicle located at the end of Factory Lane in lower Penwortham.

"The lane is secluded and off the beaten path. Vehicle was totally burnt out.

"Enquiries are ongoing."

A fire service spokesman added: "One fire engine was called at 1.37am this morning (Tuesday, October 13) to the fire.

"The crews from Bamber Bridge used one hose reel to extinguish the fire and a joint police and fire investigation is underway."

Lancashire County Council have been approached for comment.
