Officers in South Division, which covers Preston and its two neighbouring towns as well as Skelmersdale, are employing 'Operation Edge' throughout the weekend after what a spokesman described as "positive interventions and disruption on organised crime groups" on Thursday evening.

Preston and Chorley Police announced on social media on Friday evening that patrols had been increased further across the division and that the operation will continue through the weekend across all sectors.

They added that patrols had been "tasked with hotspot areas generated following reports from the public along with specific people of concern in order to reduce violence and antisocial behaviour".
