Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a Darwen man was assaulted in Burnley.

The incident took place around 2am on Saturday, December 22, when a 19-year-old man was assaulted as he stood in front of the hotdog stand opposite the Bar Code bar on Hammerton Street.

The victim was punched and knocked to the ground in an unprovoked attack by another man, who then ran off towards the direction of the Lava nightclub.

The offender is described as being white, aged 20 to 25 years old and around 6ft tall.

PC Richard Gregson, from Burnley Police, said: “The offender has approached the victim and, without warning or apparent reason, has punched him to the side of the face, knocking him to ground and causing temporary loss of consciousness.

“He suffered a lump to the head, soreness to the jaw and hearing impairment. I would appeal to anybody with any information to contact Lancashire Police on 101.”
