Pensioner injured in scooter crash

An elderly woman was airlifted to hospital after a car was in collision with her mobility scooter.

The 71-year-old was crossing Manchester Road in Burnley when the accident involving a Fiat Panda happened on Friday afternoon.

The woman received a serious injury to her leg and head and was airlifted to Royal Preston Hospital. The driver was unhurt.

Sgt John Jennings-Wharton said: “An investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the collision and we have specially trained officers supporting the family of the injured lady.

“I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw either of the vehicles being driven prior to the collision to contact police on 101.”
