Nelson man who left victims with 'devastating injuries' after machete attack jailed for 11 years

A 19-year-old man from Nelson has been jailed for 11 years following a violent attack involving a machete in Nelson last year.

Nasar Ahmed, 19, of Reedyford Road, Nelson,was sentenced at Preston Crown Court today (February 13) following a violent attack in Nelson last year (2019).

Police had been called at around 1.15am after reports a number of men carrying machetes and bats had been involved in a fight in the Brunswick Street area on July 16.

When officers arrived at the scene, a 19-year-old man was found to have suffered serious injuries to his legs and hand.

A second 19-year-old man was also was found with a serious injury to his back.

Both men were taken to hospital for treatment.

Det Con Hannah Brown, of Burnley CID, said: “This was a shocking and brutal attack which left the victims with serious injuries.

“Ahmed had been involved with a dispute with one of the victims a day earlier on July 15.

“He confronted the victims, parked in a car, attacking both before leaving them badly injured.

"It was fortunate no-one was more seriously harmed.

“Nasar Ahmed is clearly a violent individual and the jail term reflects the gravity of his actions.”

Detectives quickly established Ahmed had been involved in a dispute with one of the victims a day prior to the incident on July 15.

He later confronted both men with a machete, leaving them with devastating injuries.

Ahmed was arrested by police and later charged with two counts of attempted murder.

At court Ahmed pleaded guilty to two counts of Section 18 wounding and was jailed for 11 years at a Young Offender Institute.
