The 16-year-old boy was arrested in Preston on suspicion of terrorism offences last Thursday, November 5, but has been released with no further action being taken, Greater Manchester Police have now confirmed.

The officers had executed a search warrant at their home in Janice Drive, Fulwood, last week.

Speaking to the Post, the teenager’s mum said she was thankful to the police and social services who are supporting them to overcome their ordeal that saw their house searched by Counter-Terrorism Policing North West.

She wants people to know that her son is innocent and said it was a ‘misunderstanding'.

The mum, who asked not to be named, said: “It is important people know my son is innocent and we can finish this all off. We are very down to earth people.

“We never know how people will feel or how they will react, this could have destroyed my son’s life.

“I want people to know he is completely innocent and there has been a misunderstanding. I am really thankful to the police who have cooperated with us, looked after us and even dropped my son off at home and are continuing to support us through social services.

“Our neighbours have been supporting us through this time and my children’s school is concerned too and are keeping an eye on everything and supporting us. I just want people to know that he has been released and is innocent.”
