Morecambe man remanded on Heysham fire murder charge

A man has appeared at court charged with murder almost three years after an elderly pensioner's body was found after a house fire.

Tiernan Darnton was remanded in custody by District Judge Jane Goodwin sitting at Blackpool Magistrates Court.

He will appear at Preston Crown Court on Friday March 12.

Darnton, 20, of The Promenade, Morecambe, is charged with the murder of 94-year-old Mary Gregory, of Levens Drive,Heysham .

At first it was thought victim had died accidentally after her home caught fire because of a discarded cigarette end in May 2018.

However, police investigations re-opened the case in 2019 when detectives received new information .

Prosecutor Stacey Morrow successfully applied for Darnton to be remanded in custody.
