The hunt for two attackers who “befriended” a young man and left him unconscious is continuing, detectives said today.

The 18-year-old victim, who was alone at the time, is believed to have been stamped on by his attackers who struck as he walked down Cheapside in Preston, close to the Flag Market, after a night out last Saturday.

It happened between midnight and 1am on Saturday into Sunday.

The victim, a car valeter from Walton-le-Dale, suffered severe facial cuts and a broken cheekbone.

He is said to “remember very little” and was too distressed to speak about his ordeal.

Detectives, who were alerted by ambulance crews, have re-appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Det Sgt Martin Pearson, of Preston CID, said: “ We are still hoping someone may comeforward with the vital information we need.

“We still believe there is genuinely no motive and that it was an unprovoked attack.

Police blieve the victim was stamped on by the men.

He has been treated in the Royal Preston Hospital for a suspected fractured jaw.

Anyone with information can call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
