Morecambe’s RNLI inshore rescued were called to assist Arnside coastguard at 1.45pm yesterday after the man found himself stuck on the beach.

The man was three metres from the hardstanding between Silverdale and Arnside and after 15 minutes was pulled to safety.

The Arnside coastguard used their own mud rescue equipment and managed to free the elderly gentleman. A spokesman from the coastguard said the man was feeling cold and slightly dizzy so it was decided to transfer him via a stretcher on the hovercraft to Holgates caravan site in Silverdale. There was an awaiting ambulance crew who checked his medical condition.

Morecambe RNLI Senior Hovercraft Commander, Harry Roberts MBE, said: “With the coastguard, North West ambulance service and RNLI volunteer crew working closely together it enabled the casualty to be quickly rescued and transferred for medical assistance. This made the experience for the casualty a lot easier in a stressful situation.”
