Man pleads not guilty to robbery and firearm charges

A man has appeared in court charged with robbery and possession of a firearm following a violent altercation in Ribbleton in which a man was stabbed.

Richard Watkins, 20, of Samuel Street, Preston, was produced from the cells to stand in the dock at Preston Magistrates Court to face the charges.

Flanked by security guards, Watkins spoke only to confirm his name and address and to indicate a plea of not guilty to the charges.

Police were called to an incident in Ribbleton on Friday afternoon in which a man was stabbed in the shoulder.

The 26-year-old was taken to Royal Preston Hospital by ambulance but was later discharged.

It is believed a car was also stolen during the incident.

Officers from Lancashire Constabulary were called to the scene in Harling Road, close to Ribbleton Park, following reports of a violent row involving four men.

A second man was bailed.
