A man accused of causing the death by careless driving of an 87-year-old woman has made his first appearance at court.

Darren Bradford, 26, of the Bowling Green pub, on Wigan Road, Charnock Richard, is accused of causing the death of Enid Farrington.

She died in Blackpool Victoria Hospital following an accident on the car park of the Tramway pub, Cleveleys, on June 7 last year.

Mrs Farrington, from Cleveleys, was out walking with her elderly husband Frank when a car driven by Bradford reversed into her, it was alleged by prosecutor Jim Mowbray .

District judge Jeff Brailsford said the case could be heard by magistrates after Bradford pleaded not guilty to the offence.

However Bradford elected for trial at Preston Crown Court where there will be a hearing on Wednesday, May 20.

He was released on bail in the meantime.
