Man due in court charged with attempted murder of woman

A 62-year-old man is due to appear in court charged with attempted murder after his car allegedly mounted a pavement and hit a woman in Ormskirk, say police.

Police were called to the incident on Aughton Street at around 10.15am on Monday after a woman was hit by a car.

The woman, who is in her 60s, was taken to Aintree Hospital with what were described by police as "lower body" injuries.

She is not thought to be in a life threatening condition.

The road was closed for around three hours while emergency services attended.
