A man who plunged from the third floor of a city centre hotel has died from his injuries, it emerged today.

James Flynn, who was originally from Liverpool, was in the Clifton Hotel on Fishergate Hill, Preston, with his partner when the tragedy happened.

Mr Flynn, who was known as Jimmy, is understood to have been staying with his partner, known as Dolly, who is a tenant in the property.

They are understood to have previously stayed in a basement flat in the same property, but she had recently moved to a top floor flat shortly before the incident, which happened on June 29.

Police and paramedics raced to the Clifton Hotel in Preston’s Fishergate Hill at around 10.20pm, to find the 34-year-old victim had fallen about 40ft.

He had suffered multiple fractures and a serious head injury.

An ambulance, a rapid response vehicle and also a senior operational member of staff were sent to the address.

The property was sealed off for a short time as an investigation took place.

Lancashire Police officers previously said there were no suspicious circumstances, but are continuing to investigate what happened and how he came to fall.

Mr Flynn died in the Royal Preston Hospital on Friday, 12 days after the fall.

A spokesman for Starting Fresh Residentials, which runs the hotel, said: “Our thoughts are with his family.”

A Lancashire Police spokesman said a file had been passed to the coroner and an inquest will be held in due course.
