A man has been charged with a string of historic indecent sexual assaults on girls under the age of 14, dating back almost 20 years.

James Peach, of Town Lane, Charnock Richard, near Chorley, made a first appearance before Preston Magistrates’ Court accused of seven counts of indecent assaults on youngsters aged under 14.

The charges against the 57-year-old relate to a period between January 1996 and December 2003.

They concern two alleged victims, who cannot be identified for legal reasons.

No pleas were entered and the case has now been committed to Preston Crown Court to be dealt with.

Peach is next expected to appear in the dock for a preliminary hearing on January 2, 2015.

The magistrates’ bench has granted him conditional bail in the meantime.
