Man charged in Lancashire murder investigation after 30-year-old dies of stab wounds

Detectives investigating the death of a man in Skelmersdale have charged a man with murder.

Following a 999 call, paramedics rushed to the home of Kristaps Muzikants, 30, in Acregate, Skelmersdale at 4.40am on Saturday (March 28).

On arrival, a man was found unconscious with a stab wound.

He was taken to Aintree Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

A subsequent post mortem examination revealed the cause of his death to be a single stab wound to his chest.

Following a police investigation, Janis Mikitovs, 36, of Acregate, Skelmersdale, was arrested.

He has been charged with murder and is due to appear before Preston Magistrates’ Court today (Wednesday, April 1)

A 30-year-old arrested on suspicion of murder has since been released without charge.

Detectives are still trying to piece together Mr Muzikants’ final movements and are asking anyone who knows anything about the incident to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Gareth Willis from Lancashire’s Force Major Investigation Team (FMIT) said: "My thoughts remain with Kristaps’ family, who are being supported by specially trained officers.

"While we have charged a man our enquiries are continuing and I would appeal to anyone who has any information to get in touch with us."
