Man attacked two sex workers on city street

An investigation is underway after two sex workers were attacked during a robbery in Preston.

Around 10pm yesterday a man approached two women in St Mary’s Street.

Following a brief conversation the man entered into a verbal altercation with the women, grabbing one of the victim’s bags and attempting to assault her.

Both women fought back against the attacker and following a violent struggle the offender made off from the scene with the bag.

One of the victims, a 30-year-old woman, suffered a bite mark to her arm during the assault, with the other victim, aged 29, punched by the attacker.

The offender is described as Asian, aged in his mid-30s and around 5ft 7in tall. He was wearing blue jeans, blue shoes, possibly trainers, with white soles. He is likely to have noticeable injuries, including significant scratch marks to his face and neck along with a bite mark to his ear.

Detectives are appealing for information following the incident.

Det Con Ian Zanelli, of Preston CID, said: “This was clearly a shocking and frightening ordeal for the victims and we are carrying out extensive enquiries to identify the suspect.

“We are very keen to hear from anyone who saw a man fitting the description in the area around the time of the offence.

“I would urge anyone with information to contact police. We believe the attacker will have suffered some injuries during the altercation.

“Any information will be treated in the strictest confidence.”
