A man was arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary after a homeowner in Whittle-le-Woods disturbed an attempted break-in, say police.
The homeowner was alerted to the incident, which happened at around 2.50am on May 16 on Harvest Drive, by a loud bang.
On investigation, they discovered that at a garage door at their property had been forced open and called the police.
Response units and a dog patrol were turned out to track the offender.
A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: "We were called to reports of an attempted burglary early this morning. A homeowner was woken up by a large bang which it turned out was the sound of their garage being forced open.
"Response units and a dog patrol quickly responded and managed to contain the suspect in an area and a man aged 49 from Preston was arrested on Dunham Drive within 20 mins.
"Thankfully, nothing was taken from the garage.
"We have had a number of reports of garage break-ins in the area recently and this is a good opportunity to remind people to ensure that their garages are kept secure particularly overnight."
A 49-year-old man from Preston remains in custody.
