Man arrested after woman left for dead following sexual assault

Police have arrested a man following a brutal assault at the weekend.

A 22 year old man, has been arrested at an address in Blackburn this morning (Tuesday, September 26, 2017).

Detectives launched an investigation after a 33 year-old woman was approached from behind by her attacker and subjected to a serious assault. After the assault the attacker ran off in the direction of Dixon Street leaving the victim lying unconscious.

She was also sexually assaulted.

The attack left the woman with a bleed on the brain, lost teeth and a fractured jaw, say police.

The victim remains in hospital undergoing treatment.

The incident happened at around 8.15pm on Saturday, September 23 off George Street West in Blackburn opposite to the entrance of the Suez Recycling depot.

A police spokesman said: "We would like to thank the community for their help and co-operation up to this stage of our enquiries."
