The offender is believed to have targeted the helicopter in the Penwortham area of Preston.
The helicopter, based at Warton, was helping Preston police search for a man after a complaint of domestic assault at around midnight.
As they were returning to base a man in the Penwortham area shone a green laser at the aircraft.
NPAS Warton later tweeted an image of how a laser can dazzle a pilot.
