One lane is closed on the northbound carriageway between junction 30 at Walton le Dale and 31 at Samlesbury.

The closure is due to a vehicle that broke down this morning and damaged the surface of the carriageway.

The other two lanes are open, but the closure has lead to long delays in the area, Highways England has warned.

Tailbacks have been reported as far back as Leyland and the congestion is also affecting the M61.

Resurfacing work will take place tonight - from 10pm two lanes of the M6 northbound will be closed.

The m61 will be closed entirely northbound from junction 9 while the works are ongoing.
