Pensioner left M6 accident scene

A pensioner who left the scene of a motorway accident in Lancashire has appeared in court.

Noel Nickerson, was behind the wheel of a Mazda when it was involved in a crash with a Fiat Doblo van which left another man injured, Preston Magistrates’ Court was told.

The 70-year-old defendant had failed to stop at the scene of the collision on the M6 close to Carnforth on November 20 last year.

He initially entered not guilty pleas to the offences of driving without due care and attention and failing to stop after an accident in which injury was caused, but later changed his pleas to guilty.

During a subsequent hearing, Nickerson, from Furze Hill Road Shipston-on-Stour, Warwickshire, was ordered to pay a fine of £396 by the magistrates’ bench.

He must also pay a £39 victim surcharge, and £300 prosecution costs.

Worker was not entitled to claims

A woman who failed to declare her job to the authorities has admitted benefit fraud.

Jennifer Baker, of Oswald Road, Ashton-on-Ribble, Preston, dishonestly failed to promptly notify Preston City Council and the Department for Work and Pensions of a change of circumstances of her employment between March 26, 2016 and February 23, 2017.

It affected her entitlement to housing benefit and income support.

The 28-year-old defendant appeared before Preston Magistrates’ Court where she entered guilty pleas to two benefit offences.

She was given a community order with an eight week curfew .

She must also pay an £85 victim surcharge and £85 prosecution costs.

Lee Paul Codling, 34, of Garsdale Road, Brookfield, Preston, was given a restraining order after admitting assaulting a woman and must pay a £436 fine and £85 victim surcharge.

Robert Dunkeld, 36, of Arcon House, Heaton Road, Lancaster, was discharged for 12 months after admitting stealing £60 from a woman and must pay £60 compensation, a £20 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

Joseph McNamara, 43, of Hardy Close, Ashton-on-Ribble, Preston, admits failing to give driver information and must pay a £650 fine, £65 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

James Whiteside, 32, of Clayton Avenue, Leyland, was found guilty of travelling without a valid ticket and must pay a £220 fine, £4.60 compensation, a £30 surcharge and £150 costs.

Carl Price, 50, of Great Meadow, Chorley, was banned for 22 months after admitting drink driving and must pay a £120 fine, £30 surcharge and £85 costs.

Samantha Robinson, 30, of St Pauls Close, Farington Moss, Leyland, was banned for 12 months after admitting drug driving and must pay a £120 fine, £30 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

Frank Marsden, 49, of Westfield Drive, Leyland, must have drug treatment after admitting stealing £325 groceries from Tesco in Buckshaw Village and must pay an £85 surcharge and £85 costs.

Marek Wiercigroch, 31, of St Anthony’s Road, Preston, was given a curfew after admitting driving while disqualified and must pay an £85 surcharge and £85 costs.

David Anthony Gartland, 31, of Meadowfield, Penwortham, was banned for 17 months after admitting drink driving and must pay a £120 fine, £30 surcharge and £85 costs.
