Leyland man and woman face drugs trial in 2022
A man and a woman accused of drug offences will only face a trial in 2022 due to delays in the criminal justice system.
Jordan Louis Bishop, 23, of Higher Meadow, Leyland, and Danielle Rocha, also 23, and of the same address, are jointly charged with possession of cannabis with intent to supply it.
The charge relates to January 3 this year when it is alleged 498g of the drug was found in Preston.
They appeared before Preston Crown Court.
Judge Philip Parry set an expected trial date of March 28, 2022.
It comes after the Post revealed the huge backlog of cases in Lancashire’s criminal courts is forcing judges to set criminal trial dates as far ahead as 2022.
The latest figures revealed there were 12,945 outstanding court cases in the area’s magistrates courts, with 1,249 more at the crown courts.
