Intruder went into home and stole TV

An intruder who sneaked into a house has avoided prison.

Gareth Mason, of Great Meadow, Chorley, entered a home in Moor Road, Chorley, as a trespasser, Preston Magistrates’ Court was told.

Prosecutors said during the incident, on April 18, the 27-year-old defendant stole a black LG television, cable and remote control worth £190.

In a separate incident, the court heard, Mason assaulted a woman on May 1 in what the prosecutors said was a domestic violence related episode.

Mason admitted charges of burglary and assault.

He was ordered to pay £190 compensation to his victim, an £85 surcharge and £85 costs and was given a curfew and a drug rehabilitation requirement by the bench.

He was also ordered to take part in the Building Better Relationships probation programme.

Driver had cocaine in his bloodstream

A motorist who obstructed police who caught him driving through Lancaster while under the influence of drugs has been banned from driving for a year.

Tyrone Law was stopped in a Citroen C1 on Cable Street on December 23 last year.

In a hearing before Preston Magistrates’ Court, the 25-year-old driver pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of cocaine and benzoylecgonine.

The court was told the drugs in his blood exceeded the legal limit.

He also admitted obstructing a PC and driving while uninsured.

Law, who gave his address as Lune Street, Lancaster, was given a eight week prison term, suspended for 24 months, and must pay a £115 victim surcharge and prosecution costs of £85.

Court snaps

Steven Harkin, 29, of Crossgill Place, Lancaster, admits damaging a woman’s television and must pay £150 compensation, a £480 fine, a £48 surcharge and £85 costs.

Michael Carter, 43, of Denmark Street, Lancaster, was banned for 18 months and must do 80 hours unpaid work after admitting failing to give a breath test, and must pay an £85 surcharge and £85 costs.

Dean Holmes, 42, of Princes Road, Walton-le-Dale, admits driving without insurance and must pay a £120 fine, £30 surcharge and £85 costs.

Robert Maclellan, 25, of Rosemary Court, Penwortham, Preston, was banned for 12 months after admitting drug driving and must pay a £120 fine, £30 surcharge and £85 costs.

Eileen McCann, 46, of Clitheroe Street, Preston, was given a curfew after admitting stealing perfume and must pay an £85 surcharge and £85 costs.

Lesley Maddiss, 44, of Lytham Road, Fulwood, Preston, was banned for 12 months after admitting drink driving and must pay a £162 fine, £30 surcharge and £150 costs.

Darren Newsham, 34, of Hazel Close, Penwortham, admits damaging a woman’s cupboard and wall and must pay a £207 fine, a £30 surcharge and £85 costs.

John Devine, 29, of HMP Wymott, Ulnes Walton, was jailed for four weeks after admitting assaulting a man and must pay a £115 surcharge.

Liam Hodgson, 27, of no fixed abode, was jailed for four weeks after being found guilty of assaulting a woman and was given a restraining order.

Lindsay Dimmock, 34, of Stefano Road, Preston, was given a six week jail term, suspended for a year, after admitting stealing air fresheners.
