Multiple shed thief to do unpaid work

A busted shed thief caused £200 damage when he vandalised a Lancashire Police vehicle, a court has heard.

Declan Jack McDonagh, of Norris Street, Plungington, Preston, has been brought to justice two years after a string of incidents in August 2016.

The 20-year-old appeared before Preston Magistrates’ Court where he admitted three counts of theft and one count of criminal damage.

The bench imposed a rehabilitation activity requirement and ordered him to do unpaid work for 80 hours.

The court heard in September 2016, McDonagh had entered a shed and stole tools worth £90.

From another wooden shed he stole a pressure washer, fire pit and lighting fluid worth £120.

He also entered a third shed in the city and stole a garden strimmer worth £150 from a resident.

Woman’s haul of loot from shops

A woman has been jailed for eight weeks after a string of thefts from city shops.

Joanne Margaret Houston, of Chaddock Street, Preston, appeared before Preston Magistrates’ Court where she admitted four counts of theft.

The bench heard on October 5 she stole an electric toothbrush and gift set worth £84 from Superdrug, before stealing candles from Laura Ashley.

Two days later the 38-year-old stole an expensive jacket from M&S.

The shoplifter returned to M&S the next day, October 8, and stole goods worth £246 including a jewellery box, hats and scarves.Four other offences were admitted at court and taken into consideration. Houston was also ordered to pay £360 compensation to M&S.

Court snaps

Michael Duncan, 24, of Hill Road, Lancaster, must take part in the Building Better Relationships programme after admitting criminal damage and assault, and must pay £200 compensation and a £85 surcharge.

Ryan Nicholls, 22, of Maple Leaf Close, Ingol, Preston, was given 26 weeks in jail, suspended for two years, after admitting causing actual bodily harm to a woman and criminal damage, and must pay a £115 surcharge and £85 costs.

Margaret Hutchinson, 50, of Fairhope Avenue, Lancaster, was bound over in the sum of £100 for six months after admitting breaching the peace.

David McDermott, 36, of Rose Lane, Preston, must pay £125 compensation and have drug treatment after admitting twice stealing alcohol - with eight similar crimes taken into consideration - and was given 12 weeks suspended for 12 months.

Nico Sydenham, 23, of Marine Road West, Morecambe, was banned for 18 months after admitting drug driving and failing to stop, and must pay a £180 fine, £30 surcharge and £85 costs.

Leroy Colecozy, 44, of Maitland Street, Ribbleton, Preston, was given eight weeks suspended for a year, and a curfew after admitting stealing cosmetics and air fresheners and obstructing a PC.

Michael Edgar, 34, of Shore Road, Hesketh Bank, Preston, was banned for 22 months after admitting drink driving and must pay a £530 fine, £53 surcharge and £85 costs.

Charlotte McCallion, 19, of Ronaldsway, Preston, was banned for 22 months after admitting drink driving and must pay a £230 fine, £30 surcharge and £85 costs.

Shaun Smith, 37, of no fixed abode, was jailed for 14 weeks after admitting stealing alcohol.
