Lancaster prison manslaughter accused to appear next month

A court hearing for a man accused of killing an inmate at HMP Lancaster Farms has been delayed.

Police were called to reports a 39-year-old man had suffered a serious head injury at HMP Lancaster Farms on June 23, 2019.

The man, later named as Richard Hamill, from Morecambe, was taken to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment but died on June 28.

A Home Office post mortem examination established the cause of death as a bleed on the brain.

Joshua Kettle, 29 of no fixed address, is charged with manslaughter and is due to appear before Preston Crown Court on August 14.
