Lancaster man accused of murdering brother appears in court

A man accused of murdering his younger brother has made his first appearance in court.

Kieran Cuffe, 48, of Dunkeld Street, Lancaster appeared before Preston Magistrates’ Court accused of killing Seamus Cuffe, 46.

Police were called at around 6.40pm on Saturday to reports Seamus Cuffe had been assaulted near Barclays Bank in Lancaster.

OPffuicers were called again at 10.15am on Monday to an address in Chestnut Grove, Lancaster, following reports of his sudden death.

A post-mortem examination has been carried out but the cause of death is at this stage unexplained.

The magistrates’ court committed the case to the Crown Court, where he will appear on September 14, and he was remanded into custody.
