Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans has welcomed a report by the Home Affairs Select Committee which proposes a statutory ban on the identification of people arrested on suspicion of sexual offences in England and Wales.

Mr Evans, who was cleared of a string of sex offence allegations last year said: “This proposal will only provide anonymity until charges are brought, therefore still allowing others to come forward once charges are brought, but will prevent people being hung out to dry. I do not believe that it is right for people to be plastered all over every national newspaper in order to fish out other people.”
