Jurors took just half an hour to clear Stephen Saiger, a detachment commander at Weeton and Kirkham cadets, of two charges.

The 47-year-old, a married dad from Clifton Road, Warton, admitted texting the girl during his trial at Preston Crown Court, but denied allegations he bent the girl over his knee and hit her with a stick.

He also denied an allegation that on another occasion he asked her to lift her top and smacked her on the bottom.

The former soldier, who is married with children, had served in the British Army before joining the cadet force.
