This is the face of a shoplifter wanted by police after an attack on a supermarket worker.

Officers in Leyland have released CCTV images of a man they want to question.

They have appealed for information after a member of staff was assaulted in an Asda store in the town.

At around 12:45pm on Sunday March 2, the unknown male offender entered the supermarket on Towngate.

The offender then attempted to leave the store with two lamb joints without making any attempt to pay for them.

When the store’s duty manager tried to detain him, he was assaulted by the offender, who then left the scene.

The assault left the duty manager with an injury to the back of his head.

The offender is described as a white man or youth, approximately 5ft 5ins tall.

At the time of the offence, he was wearing a black and beige bob hat, a black jacket and black tracksuit pants

PC Felipe Garcia said: “This was an unacceptable assault on a man who was simply trying to do his job in stopping someone who was attempting to steal from the store.

“Our lines of enquiry have proved unsuccessful in the month since the offences happened.

“We would appeal for anyone who may have been in the store at the time and saw what happened, or anyone with any information that could help us to trace the person responsible, to come forward.”

Anyone with information can contact Police on 101 quoting log number LC-20140302-0677.

Alternatively, information can be passed on via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
